Where are all the good shows?

I am sick and tired of cable television.

There are truly a thousand channels in my network, each of which offers nothing of value. The bulk of today’s programming is made up of reruns of old baseball games, cooking shows and shows from the 1970s and 1980s, mixed in with reality talent and teen pregnancy programs. The only thing worth watching these days is the on-demand reruns of “The Wire” and “The Sopranos.”

The reality is that reality shows and made-for-TV movies have killed television.

I know that the summer is slow and that all the new shows start after Labor Day, but, man, is there nothing to watch? It is quite frustrating to have all those channels truly not to be able to find anything worth my time.

All I can say is, thank goodness for Daniel Silva, Nelson DeMille and the late Vince Flynn. These three authors have written a number of great spy and crime novels and I highly recommend their books for some solid entertainment, both when there is and, what’s more likely, when there isn’t anything to watch on television.

My recent post about the machines taking over yielded a number of comments, both flattering and unflattering.

It always pleases me to get comments, especially the negative ones. When I read a negative comment about my work, I become inspired. Not because I want to do better (frankly, I think I am doing just fine), but because it makes me happy to hear that my work affected somebody so much that they were willing to sit down and take time out of their day to tell me how wrong I got it. So thanks for the comments – keep them coming.

Stay cool and drink lots of fluids. It’s quite hot out there.
