MADE IN CHINA WINES TOP BORDEAUX

Made in China wines top BordeauxChina has outranked France in wine, says a jury of tasters.

All the wines in the bind taste testing were produced in 2008 or 2009. The Chinese wines came from the northwestern region Ningxia and were priced between 200-400 yuan ($30-$60).

The top performing wine was a 2009 cabernet sauvignon from the Grace Vineyard in Ningxia while the top ranking French wine took fifth place, a 2009 Medoc from the Lafite vineyard in Bordeaux.

According to Luxuo, Bordeaux expert Nathalie Sibille said the Chinese wines had “performed very, very well”, adding, “this region (Ningxia) has enormous potential”.

Moet and Chandon is also banking on Ningxia to produce premium bubbles. In May of this year, they announced a joint venture to produce a made in China high-end sparkling wine.
