Home appliance giant Dyson recently announced their newest ‘air multiplier’ (fan), the $399.99 Hot AM04. As the name suggests, this fan is not just for summer: in addition to cooling a room down to 32 degrees, it can heat a room up to a toasty 99 degrees. The fan heater monitors the temperature of the room and turns on automatically if a drop or rise in temperature is detected. It is being marketed as a more efficient alternative to central heating/cooling or traditional space heaters.
James Dyson said to PSFK: Fan heaters rely on inefficient motors or dust friendly grilles. As the heat rises you’re left with a partially heated room and a worrying burning smell. We’ve developed a heater that heats the whole room, without you having to constantly adjust the temperature.
The Hot AM04 is the result of the work of 22 engineers over three years. This mega-fan uses the same technology as jet engines: the unit draws air in and amplifies it by six before shooting it out into the room. In addition to a remote that magnetizes to the unit, Dyson boasts several safety features: the fan will automatically turn off if tipped over, its surface stays cool, and it has no visible heating elements.
