Bloggers, techies, hipsters, and fashionistas have had the iPhone 5 rumor mill spinning in high gear all summer long, and although no official announcement has yet been made, all signs point to an Apple iPhone 5 release on October 4.
Apple will hold an event at the beginning of next month— that much is confirmed— but the notoriously secretive company has not released any other details. However, industry experts are all but certain that this will be the highly-anticipated announcement of the iPhone 5.
At their last event in June, the Silicon Valley-company showed off the iOS 5 interface for all models of iPad and iPhone, alongside several software updates and a refreshed MacBook Air. The lack of a new standout product at this press conference has fueled the speculation that has everyone circling October 4 on their iCal.
This will also be the first launch event for Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook, who recently replaced Steve Jobs at the head of the company. Jobs is likely to make a cameo appearance at the event, but reports thus far suggest that Cook will use the opportunity to introduce himself, and his new role at the company. A flawless launch of the iPhone 5 would be an auspicious start to his position at CEO, especially after the Gizmodo leak of many details associated with the fourth generation phone about a year ago.
Apple iOS 5 already has many desirable features, like the near-eliminated need for USB connections, direct Twitter integration, camera improvements and iCloud accessibility. The iPhone 5 is also expected to debut service on the Sprint network, joining AT&T and Verizon as the exclusive carriers of the smartphone.
