The Puma Suede sneakers are iconic when it comes to shoes. They were all the rage in the 70s and 80s and remained popular throughout the 90s. However, in order to still be relevant in the new millennium, Puma felt that the Suede shoes not only needed to look great, but also be environmentally sustainable. Last week, Puma introduced the Re-Suede, a redesign of the original Puma Suede using recycled materials.<\/p>\n

The sole of the new Re-Suede sneakers are made with a rice husk filler, which is a byproduct of the food industry. The shoe\u2019s upper, sock liner, linings and laces are all made from 100 percent recycled material. The Re-Suede is also 140 grams lighter than the original and will reduce carbon emission by up to 15 tons for every 1,000 pairs shipped.<\/p>\n

The Re-Suede is just one example of Puma\u2019s corporate strategy to become eco-friendly. The global shoe brand hopes to manufacturer half of its collection using sustainable materials by 2015.<\/p>\n
